In anticipation of the first Values-Enacted Leadership Institute (VELI) getting underway later this month, we’re excited to unveil our new logo! We wanted VELI to have a distinct logo that reflected the intention and work that attendees will undertake as we come together in Portland, Oregon. We worked with Cait Palmiter, a graphic designer who understands our commitment to infusing values into the work we do. She came recommended by our friends at Knowledge Commons, and she quickly understood what we were trying to convey.
The design brief we gave her drew on elements of topography, cartography, and wayfinding, and after a few easy rounds of revision we decided on the designs shown below:

Leadership is a journey. Sometimes it’s an easy stroll, and sometimes there’s more challenging terrain. Like a hike into the mountains there can be meadows, rocky outcrops, and finally the summit. VELI walks you through that landscape and gives you the tools you’ll need to achieve your leadership goals. Think of values as your trekking poles. They can help you navigate the harder terrain and support you when you run into difficult conditions.
By incorporating colors from the original HuMetricsHSS logo we remain complementary and cohesive between the different aspects of our work, but VELI stands on its own as an initiative aimed at helping groups incorporate values into their leadership strategies. The mountain represents what it can feel like when trying to make change, but the sky is sunny and there are trees standing tall to guide your way.
We’re excited to share more as we work with our first cohort. If you’re interested in next year’s program be sure to sign up for our newsletter.
